A feral mom cat had 5 kittens in the ceiling of an open basement when it was still super cold, cold! We watched them, fed mom, and just waited until they were eventually old enough to go into homes. If we didn't step in and rehome them, they would have ALL just turned into street cats running feral. I don't feel like that is ANY life for a cat, so I was more than happy to help get them all into great, loving, stable forever homes, and I ended up being successful at that mission! While talking to a previous adopter, he told me (excitedly) that if I had another baby kitten that ONLY I have raised that they would be interested in adopting another kitten, BUT ONLY one from me!! That made me feel really good about doing the whole cat rescue thing. He also ended up adopting a second kitten (a friend for #1), and it was my first repeat adoption that really made me feel good and like I am making some awesome kittens, helping to change some people's views and feelings about cats, they are SO misunderstood I think!
